Course Description

Q Processing Professional is a six-day field-based course where learners deepen their theoretical knowledge of the main processing methods, learn best practices, and gain hands-on experience with a quality control system for post-harvest processing. With this content, students will begin to develop the skillsets necessary to achieve different flavor profiles through processing. The course takes place in a producing country during the harvest season, and involves lectures, team activities, applied lessons, and cuppings. It is a hands-on and collaborative learning experience fit for the practical needs of the producing side of industry. To be certified, attendees must pass both theoretical and practical tests. As the course progresses, learning expands beyond post-harvest processing to the earlier and foundational stages of coffee production, reinforcing a full farm-to-cup perspective. Coffee Nursery Establishment and Maintenance - focuses on producing healthy, vigorous coffee seedlings for successful field planting. Participants learn proper site selection, the use of quality seeds, preparation of suitable nursery media, and the provision of adequate shade and water during germination and early growth. Emphasis is placed on regular maintenance—such as watering, nutrient management, weed control, pest and disease monitoring, and hardening off—to ensure strong, uniform seedlings with high survival rates and productivity after transplanting. Regenerative Coffee Farming - introduces a sustainable production approach that restores soil health, enhances biodiversity, and improves farm resilience while maintaining productivity. The module highlights living soils, agroforestry and shade systems, organic and biological inputs, ground cover, and reduced soil disturbance, connecting farming practices to long-term quality, climate resilience, and economic sustainability in coffee production.
